Photography – Los Angeles

Behind the Lens As a lucky international explorer, whether in front of the camera or behind the lens photographer, Shirley Ly is completely at home in her own photography studio. As a Chinese/Vietnamese immigrant raised in Southern California, Shirley has spent the past 10 years professionally building and creating a great list of past clientele in Hollywood. ShirleyStarPhotography has catered the likes of actors such as Steven Bauer, comedian Jo Koy from Chelsea Lately & Netflix to Tyra Bank’s Top Model Cycle 20, Mike Scocozza, among others. Shirley has also been invited and participated in many exhibitions from the West coast’s LA art walks to the East coast digital-art gallery. In Dec 2010, Shirley was then nominated for “Photographer of the Year” through Raw:Artist (global independent arts organization, for artists, by artists) As a model, many photographers Ly has worked with, long behold whom later she would consider personal mentors in her own foundation as a photographer. Finding positivity in being a self-taught photographer, breaking “classic” photography rules came easily to her. Shirley’s keen-style for using surrounding environments involved, artificial lighting outdoors and unique colorization ability in post-production has set her apart from the bunch. “I love taking pictures ever since I was a kid. But there’s more to taking pictures than a click of a button. To get technically, what you see in a photograph is a combination of the photographer’s emotion, aesthetic sense and visual skill in evaluating form, color, and content. I enjoy photographing in different genres from lifestyle to nightscapes. Professionally, I started shooting models (on modelmayhem in 2008) for their portfolio, but as time progressed I expanded into other styles that allowed me to carry my experiences and knowledge from one discipline to another. I want to continue contributing to the arts community and impact more people through my lens”
