My name is Rachel Carter and I am an indie jewelry designer. I live and work in the Red River Gorge, KY area. I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, kayaking and pretty much anything outdoors. I had an amazing 10-year career in ICU nursing and am now following one of my artistic passions making jewelry. I make beaded dreadlock jewelry along with pieces that usually include silver or copper and a variety of stones or beads. I love the look of handmade jewelry in which small imperfections are the fingerprints of the artist's soul left on the work. My pieces are meant to be a metaphor for the beauty of imperfection. I believe when we can see imperfections as endearing in a piece of jewelry we get closer to seeing the endearing nature of imperfections in ourselves and others. I've taken silversmith classes where I learned how to cut, form, solder metal and set stones in my jewelry using metalsmith techniques. I also often recycle metal by melting it down and forming it into sheet or wire to compose my designs. My style of jewelry is for those who seek one of a kind, quality, hand crafted artwork that embodies a message of authenticity acceptance of the human condition and self-love.
