Nyane Khosi Dance Theatre was founded in 2012, in New York City, by Tumi Nkomo. Nyane Khosi’s movement vocabulary is grounded in the principles of African Dance, while utilizing the versatility of dance styles found around the African Continent and Diaspora communities around the world. Nyane Khosi is a culturally diverse company with connections various social and educational organizations, including The University of Delaware’s “Sharing Our Legacy” student company headed by Lynnette Overby. The company is an international touring company exploring local and international destinations including New Rochelle, Delaware, Virginia, South Africa and Australia. The Mission of Nyane Khosi Dance Theater is to encourage a socially and culturally conscious environment through education and the creation of works that are accessible to audiences of all backgrounds. Nyane Khosi’s aim is to deconstruct the socio-economic limitations of “high art” by utilizing dance as a vehicle of cultural amalgamation, cross –cultural exposure and exchange on a global scale. Tumi Nkomo’s work is inspired by her life experiences around the world, as well as the socio-political and economic circumstances that she has encountered in her life.
