Visual Art – Houston

HELLO! I'm Mina Silva. I'm an 18 year old artist born and raised in Houston, Texas. I make artwork ranging from all different types of media including drawings, paintings, sculpture, installation, photography, sound, and performance. My work is loosely based off the idea of community. My neighborhood community after it was destroyed by Harvey floodwaters, inequality within the lgbtqa+ community, the community of students standing up for stricter gun laws after the tragic shootings at Stoneman Douglas and Santa Fe, the communities in all different parts of Houston (3rd ward, Southwest, 5th ward, Montrose) are just a few examples what I make/ have made my art about. I think of my artwork as a response to all these events happening around us and broadcast it to influence other people to make change. I hope to educate people on lingering issues in our society through my practice. I also use my art practice to explore my identity and the nooks and crannies of my mind. Being a non-binary, white, and Mexican, I have a lot to explore and say about today's social and political climate
