Beauty – Baltimore

My full name is Mikayla Nicole Edwards. I am 20 years old, my birthday is October 10th, 1998. I was born and raised in PG county, Maryland. At about age 4 I was enrolled into dance classes. I did a variation of classes consisting of ballet, tap, jazz, and even joined a competitive baton twirling team. I have always worn makeup to those competitions and recitals but my mom was the one doing it. After about 8 years of dance, I was entering high school and decided to try cheerleading. I cheered all 4 years of high school, doing both side line and competitive cheer. Now that I was older, I did my own makeup. I graduated from Dr. Henry Wise high school in 2016. I graduated with my medical assistant certification wanting to go into the medical field. My entire life changed when I got the courage to do peoples makeup for prom. I made myself an entire makeup kit with everything you could think of from foundations, to glitters, to crazy lip colors. I was charging people $25 to get their makeup done. I was booked and busy. Then, I got a job working for a makeup brand called KIKO. At KIKO I was the beauty advisor, I was the designated makeup artist for the store. I worked there for about a month and then unfortunately the company decided to go out of business. I was crushed, I had my dreams given to me, and then snatched right back. In the meantime of finding another makeup job, I worked at a shoe store called Famous Footwear. I was miserable here, I just knew that this was not where I was suppose to be but I was patient. One day while scrolling on Facebook, I saw a job posting for Smashbox Cosmetics. They were hiring freelance artists in my area. I sent in a resume and 2 days later I got a call back. After a couple interviews, I got the job. I was traveling to different Ulta's and Sephora's in my area to help sell Smashbox Cosmetics. I loved this job but something was still missing. Freelancing for Smashbox was more of the retail side of makeup and I wanted to help educate people on makeup and drive sales but also to be hands on! On September 16, 2018 I became an official boutique manager for a multi million dollar company, Lancome. Not only am I selling makeup again but I am able to do full makeup applications! Since working for Lancome, I have discovered new products, met new people, traveled for trainings, and enhanced so many peoples beauty with my skills. In my free time I create looks on myself and post to social media. I also want to start getting into Youtube, doing makeup classes, and taking my knowledge/ skill to new heights.
