Marz Artz

Visual Art – Toronto

MARZ (Marissa Bishop) coined herself “Improv Artist” because the work reveals itself to her as its being created. Concepts also occur while observing life on walks in the city, hikes in the forest or watching people on commutes. From the bark of a tree, a pattern of wallpaper to clouds in the sky, she sees faces and hidden worlds in almost everything. This imaginative eye is the driving force behind her character pieces making it her mission to endlessly create. It gives her great delight when her work is enjoyed in other peoples’ spaces. Her style is predominantly abstract with a playful, sometimes surrealist, twist. Picasso, Bellmer and Dali have been unconscious influences over the years. But it was her mother’s eye that shaped her to the contemporary artist she is today. She loves to concoct and invent original work with various mediums, especially up-cycled materials along with pre-loved frames. Sharpies, ink pens, acrylic paints and digital canvases are her main mediums of choice. Toronto is her home and was a Visual Arts major at Cawthra Park SS and an Industrial Design major at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
