Visual Art – Washington, D.C.

I'm Kim Sandara, a local DMV emerging artist. I studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art and got my BFA in General Fine Arts in 2016. My paintings explore translations of music to visuals. Different sounds connect to different levels of emotion, which create a large variety of: shapes, strokes and color. The sight of sound moves in a continuous changing pattern. These paintings are action-oriented. The synesthetic process involves bringing out a subconscious state of being to translate my relationship with sounds into expressive visuals. I've learned that these expressions are very subjective and are subject to change as my experience with music and memory changes. Through my exploration, I’ve learned that the specific types of music I listen to have become less important than the experiences of the work.
