Julia Ring Photography

Photography – Milwaukee

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Julia Ring is a graduate from Beloit College with a BA in anthropology and Museum Studies. Outside of photography, she has worked as a crew leader on an Americorps service year in Utah, a curatorial assistant at the Wright Museum of Art, an outdoor educator at the Milwaukee Urban Ecology Center, an intern in the European Department at the Milwaukee Art Museum, and a tripping co-leader at Camp Manito-Wish. Julia's interest in photography has grown in part with her love of the outdoors. An avid outdoorswoman, Julia is a natural (no pun intended) landscape photographer. Her travels have taken her backpacking in the barren alpine of the Yukon, up to remote fire lookouts in the Colorado Rockies and Pacific Northwest, canoeing through northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and mountain biking all throughout New Zealand during a semester abroad. When she isn't hiding in wild places, she takes just as much joy shooting cityscapes, especially Milwaukee. This coming August, Julia will be moving back to New Zealand to pursue becoming an outdoor educator and landscape photographer. Her work has been featured on the NOLS website and Instagram, Rocketlight Magazine, Mosaic Literary Journal, Ace Dominion Photo Gallery in Washington D.C., at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, in the Beloit College Annual Juried Art Exhibition, as well as Gallery Abba. Past shows include solo exhibitions 'Roam', ‘Hidden Flesh’, and 'Aotearoa' at the Windfall Theatre Gallery, and group exhibition 'Savor' with RAW Artists Milwaukee.
