Photography – Detroit

Growing up with an artistic mother, I constantly found myself surrounded by art and have always been extremely fond of the arts. I began with ballet, but due to an injury, relied on visual arts. While I love illustration and filmmaking, photography always stood out. I found myself visualizing the world as I would look through a camera, imagining how I could photograph people on the street. I was then inspired to take my photography to the streets. Shortly after, I fell in love with environmental portraiture. As an aspiring photographer, I idolize Bruce Weber. Specifically, I draw inspiration from Weber’s Detroit Has Been Good To Me series, a beautifully empathetic and honest collection of environmental photography in Detroit, Michigan. I am fascinated by street photography and the pure and raw personalities captured in these images. The subjects are natural, unlike any model who would prepare for their photos to be taken on that day. There is such beauty in a person's true routine form. I like to focus on these natural personalities in my own work as well which can make a photo extremely powerful and impactful on society.
