Visual Art – Denver

As an art educator, I am constantly inspired by the work of my students. Their brave and unending creativity astounds me with every new lesson. While following the same guidelines, each young artist creates a piece of artwork completely different from one to the next. I use this inspiration in my own work, giving myself loose guidelines before I begin a painting. For example, “I will use acrylics in prismatic mixed colors to create a sense of movement with simple lines and shapes.” In this way, I can achieve a series in which each painting has followed the same artistic precept, but still can hang alone with its own individual personality. Other inspirations for mood, subject matter, and style include patterns from nature, bold yet simple colors, the movement of dance, the curves of a female body, and Mendhi designs stemming form India.
