Visual Art – Washington, D.C.

i\'m an artivist. I started out organizing protests and teaching/performing poetry. I traveled the country doing poetry when i was young, then returned to my home town and started a black arts festival. I stopped the festival to become a mother. Motherhood changed me so much as a person i stopped painting and focused on fashion last year i returned to painting with a vengeance. i paint about black female identity, motherhood, politics that move me. i am fiercely sensitive and emotional and that comes out in my work. i am also a writer. I have an unpublished fiction novel, and several poetry and essay books. But painting is my first love. I own a company called Conceited Bastards, which specializes in self love via the arts. I conduct workshops encouraging people to love themselves and teach basic painting technique.
