Visual Art – Toronto

Valerie Ashton has been working as an artist for most of the last 20 years. She most often works in acrylic, pastel and mixed media. Recently she has begun to use less traditional objects in her art, such as cans, beer caps and used coffee filters. Valerie was recently the Reclaim Artist in residence for the Haliburton School of Art and Design where she worked with the school and the Haliburton landfill to use art to show people the effect of the landfill on the environment. While at the landfill Valerie also made her rolled landscapes. Working directly on the ground at the landfill, Valerie uses paper, acrylic and a rolling pin to create these beautiful and unique works. Valerie was elected as a member of the Ontario Society of Artists in 2008 and awarded a Master Pastelist designation in 2012. Her works are in the permanent art collections of the Ontario Government and the Town of Markham.
