Visual Art – Detroit

My art has a quick sketch quality. Deliberate but imprecise line work that, I hope, makes it warm and approachable. My color choices are often subdued, but rich and warm. I try very hard to paint how the world looks through my eyes. All I can say is I love sketching and painting. That’s it. What comes together once it’s all done feels incredible. Then, another idea comes and the same process starts all over. I can’t force it to happen, it usually happens rather quickly and if I’m struggling with it, I have to set it aside. I didn’t go the traditional “artist” route, but I always knew I liked the idea of being creative but didn’t always feel good at it. One art teacher in high school took notice and that was enough for me. Got my BFA in Graphic Design and have enjoyed that for most of my life. When I started going through a divorce I picked up some watercolors to try to see if I’d like them. Watercolor was the one thing I found that didn’t let me control it and it slowed me down. It was a way for me to manage my stress. Fast forward from a year of painting leaves nearly every day, I finally started incorporating ink into the mix. The rest is history and I intend to paint and draw for the rest of my life.
