Visual Art – Mexico City

Valérian, o Valé Stencil grew up in France surrounded by artistic influence and color. The son of an artist, he first exhibited his work at 8 years old. Currently living in Mexico, Valérian infuses his work with all manner of social and cultural influences that cross his path. Similarly, his interest in pop-culture has become a focus in certain aspects of his work. At the core of his work is a desire to playfully express his perspective on the world around him and to show how different cultures have influenced this perspective. With a penchant for mixing the mediums of street-art, pop-art or collage, Valérian experiments with spray paint, acrilic paint, stencils and plastic-arts to express his vision. His photography forms the base of a large part of his painted works. A vast library of photographs and stories amassed over many journeys across 25 countries and 4 continents are a constant source of inspiration. His work seeks to portray the soul of humanity via people portraits and popular icons from a myriad different cultures. The majority of his work has a Fine-Art focus, with many pieces exhibited in galleries in France, México and Colombia. To name some places, he exhibited in the Franz Mayer Museum, Carré d'Artistes Polanco, Antara Mall, Pop Atelier Fine Art, Tinta Naranja o AguaFuerte in México; with Galerie Lisa and UndArtGround in France or Dibs Galery in Bogota. Outside of his more traditional artistic work, Valérian relishes working on artistic projects for social regeneration. Exploring urban art is his means to connect with communities, rescue public spaces and spread artistic awareness. For some of these projects he has partnered with Montana, Comex, Colectivo Tomate and MUJAM to name but a few.
