Sofía Forero and The Heraclitus Project

Performing Art – New York - NYC

Sofía: Sofía Forero Correa was born and raised in Cali, Colombia. Her interest in creative movement came from her parents, who worked in advertising, and raised her in a very creative environment. They always encouraged her to explore and have a wild imagination. She started dancing at the age of nine after discovering that movement connected her with her true self and brought her to a state of absolute peace and harmony. She studied at Joffrey Ballet School and is a current student at the Ailey School. She has performed pieces by Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Angelica Stiskin, Rena Butler, and Larisa Calero among others. She has presented her choreographic work in multiple venues, including, 14th Street Y Theater the Davenport Theater, at the NYC Dance and Music Festival, Dixon Place Theater, Mark Morris SharedSpace, Hudson Valley Festival, American-Swiss Ballet Company Showcase, The Follies Winter Festival and Fertile Ground. With her work, she aims to transport the audience to a timeless place where anything can happen, while having a harmonious connection between breath, music and movement, and the space. The Heraclitus Project: A company started by a collective of dancers who donate their time because of their love of dance and sharing the art. The Heraclitus Project draws its name from the ancient philosopher Heraclitus whose philosophy involved the belief that life is like a river, and "The peaks and troughs, pits and swirls, are all are part of the ride". Do as Heraclitus would – go with the flow. Enjoy the ride, as wild as it may be.
