Sam Yates // The Visual Underdog

Visual Art – Sydney

Hailing from South Australia, Sam Yates has embarked on what can only be described as an artistic rollercoaster. Her years spent abroad as a European tour guide, fully exposed her to the sights, sounds and masterpiece artworks alike. Returning to Australia, Sam trained as a boxer, and her courage in the ring is testament to her inner underdog and that quintessential Aussie Battler that we hold so dear. Choosing to relocate to the tranquility of the Blue Mountains in 2016 to focus on the development of her craft; her pop-cultural style and love of block watercolour has been locally well received. Sam's overall win at the 2017 Unearthed Art Competition in the New South Wales Midwest, coupled with her 2017 Archibald Prize entry, gained her unexpected media attention in the Hawkesbury; this spotlight paved the road ahead, leading her to RAW: natural born artists. Sam's work is set to ignite the RAW exhibition "TRANSCEND" on 30NOV17 (For tix, check out www.rawartists.org/sam-yates)
