Visual Art – Salt Lake City

I grew up in a family that pushed the arts. I took an interest in drawing in elementary school and was enrolled in drawing classes. The self-conscious thoughts quickly seeped in and infected my mind causing me to toss the hobby aside. Fast forward almost 20 years. I\'m graduating from high school trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. My sister tells me, \"You should do graphic design. I have a few friends that do it and I think you\'d be good at it.\" And that\'s what I did. I had messed with Photoshop for a total of 3 hours prior to attending my first graphic design classes. Once I started getting into it and learning all of the different programs my hyper focus kicked in and I spent hours creating my own things. For me it brought the joy of creating beautiful things without having to have the craft of being good with my hands. I had all these ideas and for the first time I could start creating them. This led me to looking into digital art and photo-manipulations and I started emulating styles trying to figure out how they did things. I am now at a point in my art where I\'m confident in my style and my abilities while still being able to learn from other artists no matter the medium. Once I realized that we\'re all learning within our medium I became a lot more confident in my artwork.
