Photography – Detroit

I am a Detroit based artist, but I am originally from Miami, Florida. Growing up, I was in an environment at home that wasn't very art oriented and it made me more captivated to try and create things on my own. My parents were shocked when I told them that I wanted to pursue art, they had never thought that it was something I could make a career out of. It has helped me become the person and artist I am today. I have always been captivated by the way the human brain can creatively introduce and develop concepts and ideas. When creating my pieces, I always ask myself how the viewer is interpreting my work, if they can clearly see the intention that I am trying to portray. I also want the viewers to create their own interpretations of what they believe the artwork signifies. When I started my portfolio last year, I developed an understanding of the psychology behind my artifacts. I interacted both with the medium I was using as well as my subject matters and beliefs. I began understanding the connection between the scientific processes and art making. I like to test the cohesiveness made between the two because I am intrigued by the way that I can understand and interpret what the subject matter chose to represent themselves with when it came to choosing colors and shapes. The data behind my artifacts are usually determined by prior research in order to understand afterwards what the subject matter was answering concerning their associations. Going to an art high school for photography and then being able to keep pursuing my dream as a young artist in Detroit really has made me firm on my decision to pursue photography. I grew up in an environment that wasn't very art oriented and it made me more captivated to try and create things on my own. Fine art photography has introduced me to so many different concepts and ideas.
