Amanda Baker

I am an artist/illustrator from Brisbane, Australia. The scenes within my art are contemporary scenes of everyday life. Paint (acrylic and watercolour) is often the basis for most of my works but I also find myself experimenting for hours with other materials such as glue, sand, masking fluid, and often produce unexpectedly desirable results. While my earlier practice dealt primarily with painting, I have now branched into illustration. I have written and illustrated a children’s book and am in the process of writing and illustrating more in the series. I have been using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to enhance the illustrations I've drawn. Photography is also becoming a larger part of my artistic practice. I enjoy photographing people and objects. My last photographic endeavour required that I photograph a tattooed model for competition purposes. The photos captured the essence of the subject in her surroundings and was a very enjoyable shoot. Overall, I like to work quite large and with expression and have a keen desire to express emotion in my works.
