Accessories – Perth
I am 21 years old, I live in Perth Western Australia and I am a Contemporary Jewellery Designer. I have been creative since I was a young girl. When I was 10 years old I first discovered beads and with my habit of strolling along the beaches (of the many coastal towns I have lived in) for hours searching for shells, always ecstatic by each treasure I found. I would string my beads together with these shells and make jewellery and decorations. I have always been extremely passionate, my friends and family know me for happy dances and the way I light up from the joy I obtain by learning or discovering something extremely fascinating or when someone surprises me or when I surprise myself. From age 9 to 10, I lived on an indigenous community called Wadeye (Wad-air) in the Northern Territory... My mother, in whom I inherited my creative passion from... was employed as the Art Teacher there (the only way you could live on the community - was if you had a specific occupation to help run the community). I made the greatest friends with many of indigenous kids and the elders, these friendships gave me the invaluable and rare gift of experiencing being part of an authentic indigenous tribe. I was taken hunting out bush taught the bush tucker, traditional indigenous art including; dot painting with ochre and dilly bag making. I was privileged to witness sacred ceremonies (few Caucasians are ever invited to), I listened to their dream time stories and was taken to remote lands, which required the elders of the land’s permission, for swimming, fishing and foraging. The indigenous kids even taught me their language Murranpatha. A huge part of me and my inspiration has never left this community. I feel as if I am subconsciously drawn to nature for inspiration to this day because of the time I spent there. My passion for making is also, a passion of making others happy. Ever since being a child and spending 10hrs solid making and beading in hope to make someone smile with my jewellery, I continue to use my empathy to form new ideas and make my individual pieces I just feel, is meant for someone out there.
