Kaitlyn DeSpain

I moved to Orange County from a small town in Northern California four years ago to pursue my passion in art. I am currently in the process of getting my Bachelors degree in Illustration. I am in awe of the great unknown and explore such topics in my work. I am greatly influenced by fantasy and sci-fi. I love space creatures, viking princesses, far off lands-- the list goes on and on. My main medium used in my work is watercolor. Watercolor is a magical medium and I feel it represents my creations perfectly. Along with watercolor, the extra touch of gold leaf breathes life into my illustrations. All of the subjects in my paintings have a story that I am eager to tell. Whether it\'s a sea-witch brewing up a storm to sink a pirate ship, an alien commander puffing up in victory as he looks over his defeated enemies, or a ruby princess witnessing the powerful glow of her staff-- I want my stories to ignite inspiration into others. My aspirations as an artist are to illustrate children\'s books or work in the film industry. Regardless, my ultimate goal is to nurture creativity, because the greatest accomplishment as an artist is to awaken one\'s imagination.
