Justine Wahlin

Music – Sydney

"..almost like a young peggy lee doing lonely cowgirl songs. Such a clean and effortless voice.. like listening to an old record but live..."zvonko jovicic Justine Wahlin plays songs that are drawn from the world with an insightful look into the human heart. Her long awaited debut Album, released in September this year is a collection of 11 songs that takes you on a ride from alternative folk with intricate and haunting soundscapes to foot stomping country and in parts, references the old world charm of 60’s torch songs. Justine is playing shows through November and December to promote its release. 16th Nov – Corridor, Newtown NSW 27th Nov – Raw Artists Show Case Manning bar, The University of Sydney 28th Nov – Supporting Bronwyn Aeather’s Album Launch - The Glebe Justice Centre , Glebe NSW MORE SHOWS TBA HISTORY Returning to Australia from a visit to her homeland Sweden in her early 20s she formed her first musical project with sister, Willie Wahlin. Lixivius was a powerful and eclectic collision of rock, punk and folk fronted by Willie and Johhny McCarthy, previously of Itchy Rat. Justine co-wrote and played bass in this band for around 8 years which laid the ground work for many other musical collaborations with likes of Hiske Weijers, Kieran Glasgow, Ben Connor. Justine has in more recent times focused on her unique skill as a songwriter and embarked on what is mostly a solo career standing beautifully and simply on its own. At times with the support of talented musicians forming backing bands; “Justine and The Men’ and “Mini Rhino”, her soft and soul-full songs have been transformed into epic and thunderously emotional ballads and other worldly musical soundscapes to the delight of audiences across Sydney. 2012 - 3 songs in the top 44 in the overall Triple J Unearthed charts and 3 songs in the top 5 of the Indie charts (30/01/2012). With "The Men" made it to the finals of the Emergenza Festival International band Competition and came 5th out of roughly 400 bands 2013 - Justine released her debut solo EP “Conversations with Crows”. 6 songs performed with guitar only, a beautifully simple, timeless and haunting collection of original songs with a distinctly folk leaning. Following the release of this EP in Sydney, Justine headed to France were she played to warm and receptive audiences. 2014 - Justine was added to The Sydney Fringe Festival line up. Joined by Jeremy Craib (Blue Juice) on Grand Piano she performed touching and moody arrangements of some her most popular works to critical acclaim. “Simply Beautiful. Thank you for being one of the best shows at this year’s The Sydney Fringe” Augusta Supple, Assistant Director, Casula Power House Arts Centre 2015 - Justine again played with Sydney Fringe to a packed house at Lazybones Lounge to also release her Debut Album “A Long Way From Home”.
