ARTIST STATEMENT: The sculptural work that I create in clay is the result of my fascination with improvisation. In contrast with painting, where I am concerned with telling stories that convey specific messages with the purpose of promoting emotional responses in the viewer, in ceramics my interest is primarily with form, space, texture and color. I use clay and fire as an escapade from the existential issues that inform my paintings. I don’t plan, make sketches or three-dimensional studies. I start by making a coil and we go where ever he wants to take me. I don’t use the wheel: I love imperfection.
