Visual Art – Sacramento

I grew up on a beach outside of a small town in Alaska, my parents had designed and hand built a log home on this beach, so my early experiences included many “Do it yourself” projects. We were fairly sheltered from the outside world for several years, so our entertainment consisted of playing and creating in nature. Our home was close to an authentic Haida Indian tribal house and totem pole preserve, us kids would play here and in the woods often, and spent a great deal of our time looking for and finding treasures. These treasures consisted of; animal bones, eagle feathers, shells, rocks and buried Indian art. I continued to collect nature’s treasures during my travels and hikes over the years, eventually I wanted to display the skulls and bones that I had, but they were a bit drab and unexciting to put up, so I started painting them to enhance the shapes and natural symmetry that they have. I\'ve studied a great deal in anatomy and physiology which has enhanced my appreciation of the shapes and structures of bones. I never really try to paint an image; each skull has its own unique feeling to me so most of the artwork comes from the natural shapes of the bones. Because I\'m working with a three dimensional object of natures design, I always get a great sense of awe when I do this type of art. My hope is that people can appreciate these natural beauties too.
