Music – Brisbane

Jim’s Panache is the psychedelic, space-rock solo recording project of Lachie Greig, Brisbane-based multi instrumentalist. Taking influence from Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa and Neil Young, Lachie started creating psychedelic home recordings, and wrote, recorded and mixed a debut album at home, calling on jazz wizard and childhood friend WildThang to round out the album with some incredible saxophone performances. The first taste of the album, Call It What You Will, was hardly a typical choice for a first single. Described by The Music as an “ambling, jazz-flecked space-rock tune… before descending into outright cacophony. It's pretty glorious, if you're into that kind of thing.” Followed by Drag, a more straight-forward folk rock song; and with Drag, came the Jim’s Panache live band. A 5 piece live, the band initially played few songs from Lachie’s stash, instead going for free flowing jams, but as the album release gets closer the band plays much closer to the recordings, with an added intensity. Consisting of double vocals from Lachie and Paddy, laser beam synth from Spencer and a railway train rhythm section in Dakota and Dan. The debut album from Jim’s Panache, Wide Eyed, was released April 06, 2018. Wide Eyed is an 11-track space odyssey, made up of songs that flow straight through each other with interwoven guitars, spacey synthesizers and washy vocals, balancing moments of light and dark, soft and heavy.
