Jessica Costa

Visual Art – Melbourne

Jessica is a multi-faceted artist, whose medium knows no bounds. While exploring visual emotive translations through culture, she can draw inspiration from her Italian heritage and experiences travelling. After completing an art residency in Venice, Italy in 2014; during her final year studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design at Australian Catholic University; her exploration moved from 2D watercolour works into 3D textiles. In 2016, she managed to complete an art residency in Florence, Italy, which enabled her to form a body of work for her debut solo show titled Nubivagant, held at Courthouse Youth Arts in October 2016. Her practice follows a process, as she develops watercolour pigment study's and embellishes 2D works into 3D embroidered textiles, using silk wool and cotton handed down from generations of women in her family. By deconstructing the fabric matrix, she is able to explore the visual representation of the threads that connect her to her culture and allow others to make their own connections.
