Visual Art – Boston

Jess Drury is a painter and illustrator originally from New York. She paints abstract, emotionally-charged colorscapes, landscapes and skyscapes that seek to explore the limitless beauty in nature. Jess also writes and illustrates children's books and coloring books, using fun and silly characters to explore complex emotions in child-friendly ways. ----------------------------------------- I believe my role as an artist is to passionately express the beauty of this existence. To revel in the light, to mourn in the dark, to share the vulnerabilities of delicate humanity. Transcending the spoken language into a visual language, I hope to connect on the level of the sacred. In my work, the manifestations of subconscious dreams, distant places and forbidden spaces begin to exist in fields of oil and acrylic. I speak in a language of strong color, bold shapes and textures that carry the subconscious to distant peaks and valleys. Putting my thoughts, beliefs, ideas and curiosities under a microscope, I share my processes of reaction and feeling. Exploring innermost hopes and fears, the beauty of forgotten treasure, I implore the viewer to tap into the collective unconscious, to embrace the great ancestral knowledge of humanity exploding from our cells and to delight in this shared experience of the present moment. We are the hidden magic, the great pulse. My work declares that which I cannot; the primal freedom of humanity, the ringing of the subconscious whispering the allure of the mysteries of the universe. This is what I create. This is my offering.
