Geppe Hernandez

Visual Art – Nashville

Geppe mainly works with acrylic and latex on canvas. In great curtains of color, he folds in light and dark, drawing the viewer to interpret the meaning of each painting by combining the colors and texture of the contemporary lines gripping the canvas. His pieces are composed of a chaotic progression yet thought out, beginning with a heavy backdrop of black or neutral tone. The creative aspect of his work is expressed by juxtaposing layers of thrown paint, drips and splashes. Each piece usually exhibits two standout colors such as carmine and yellow oxide or green and orange. Oftentimes splatters blot over these colors the way rain and wind would, giving the paintings a wet, running or timeworn look. Though no figures can be perceived, each painting is titled after a concept such as \"Storm and Grace\" and \"Forever Forest\". Geppe unfolds into two styles of work; one actively inspired by the greatest abstract expressionist of all time Jackson Pollock and the other with an urge for tranquility and intimacy influenced by Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman.
