George Hawitt

Visual Art – Vancouver

Georgina Hawitt is an artist living and working on the unceded territory of the Musqueam Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nation. She has a passion for metalwork and sculpture. However, Georgina finds that her main artistic practice is centered around painting. Her work displays abstract humans and figures. Often drawing inspiration from German expressionism, Georgina’s work is a mix of humor, tension, and discomfort, commanding attention and space. She challenges the viewer to question preconceived ideas and embrace the multifaceted nature of femininity. Georgina's current interest lies within the dichotomy of clown/ jester archetypes and their ability to evoke both amusement and fear. By incorporating clown-like elements into her work, she invites viewers into a world where laughter and unease coexist, highlighting the inherent duality of human experience.
