Falling Off Bicycles

Photography – Kansas City

I have always been attracted to color, to light, to beauty (who isn\'t?), but it wasn\'t until I moved to Paris and then Amsterdam that I found myself not being caught without a camera. I fell in love with the richness of the cultures, the stories the streets tell, the characters I would encounter, the bicycles, the bridges, the waterways. What good fortune I had, as my walks to the market were filled with new surprises every day: a different bike that coordinated perfectly with the nearby door, Fall leaves falling on the canals at sundown, a perfectly Dutch character holding a bouquet of tulips. It was all so romantic and charming, I just had to capture it. My bicycle added to the experience, as it increased my reach outside my little quarter or beurt. At the beginning of 2012, I had an undeniable urge to make this happen… to share the lovely scenes I have been privy to over the years, the scenes that mesmerize and charm visitors and locals alike. I believe deeply in the human need to see and experience beautiful things on a daily basis. See art, enjoy art, be art. Every day. The photos hold a special warmth and beauty that not only captures the moment as I saw it, but also brings smiles over and over. Any subject is fair game, but I tend to go for flowers, architecture, water, typical scenes of my destination, and any other beautiful thing that catches my eye.
