Elizabeth Witcher Dalling

Visual Art – Washington, D.C.

"I've been drawing since I could hold a crayon". Elizabeth Witcher Dalling started formally learning how to draw in 2008. While studying visual arts and arts management, she explored themes surrounding the human figure and facial expression. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from George Mason University. She loves using ink and watercolor in her drawings. Procreate is the primary platform for her digital drawings. Oil and acrylic paint, collage, and textiles are in her body of work as well. She works as a freelance illustrator, drawer and painter located in Virginia. Elizabeth draws and paints inspired by her personal experiences and her daydreams. Her drawn figures combine imagined ideals with stoic realism, and often portrayed in a frozen pose with a locked gaze. A duality of refined edges and chaotic lines to bring the figure to being. She is fascinated with the emotion that a soft but captivating glance portrays. Her drawings are charged with intention and feeling. Predominantly female, the subjects in her pieces evoke a sense of self-purpose, as if asking the viewer if they know what their own purpose is also. "I am very comfortable in not assigning too much of my own meaning or perspective. It is a great joy to hear how your work touches someone personally. I believe the art is alive when the meaning of it isn’t firmly fixed but open to different interpretations.”
