MORRIGANA PEHLKE – Underground Couture Fashion Designer I was born in 1981 and raised in Perth County. My parents were Stratford born, though my Dad’s mother was born in England and came to Canada after WWII. She was a seamstress and she quickly found a place at the Stratford Festival Theatre. I grew up rummaging through her wicker sewing basket, touching the scraps of beautiful fabric and playing with metal thimbles. Imagining the stories behind each piece of fabric. I’ve wanted to be so many different things throughout my life. From a police officer to a bouncer, and many things in between, though I didn’t find my creative passion until well into my 20’s. In fact, I think what prompted my creativity to soar was breaking free from an abusive relationship that stole my self-confidence and my inner power. As I pieced together each piece of wearable art, I found fragments of myself. With every stitch I grew stronger. With every new design I grew more confident. Leading me down the path of eventually finding my true self again. Over the ten years since, I have taught myself to design, create, and redefine the world of wearable art. Learning to love what I am creating and finding an deep-rooted passion for it is what gives me the confidence to share it with the world. I now find it both healing and empowering to design. I hope that, through sharing my work, I can empower others and share with them the deep emotions I have felt while breathing life into my art. My work has let me open doors to the worlds of Steampunk, History, Fantasy and movie-costumes. I have begun the journey of discovering my inner couture designer. Working with delicate fabrics and art-to-wear style trappings. Making my designs truly artistic and pushing the boundaries of wearable art. I have recently returned from my international debut at London Fashion Week - February 2018
