Visual Art – Calgary

I started to paint with acrylics five years ago, and have evolved to a mixed media method. My art work is an exploration of making chaos beautiful. I started showing my art at the studios where I taught yoga and now am a member of the Artpoint Gallery & Studios Society where I have my work on display and where I curate an annual solo exhibit. Other spaces my work is installed include Bite Grocer & Eatery in Inglewood, Progressive Alternatives Society Calgary and Prairie Dog Brewing. I take great joy in drawing from my raw creative inspirations which include, relationships, nature and my dream life. The more deeply engaged I am in my life, the more I am inspired to create my art. I am a self-taught artist, a social worker, a yoga teacher and a mother. I believe we are all creative; we somehow start to believe that only 'special' people are capable of being creative and this is not the case. The artists in this world are the ones that overcome this belief and take the leap to make some noise without concern for what people may think. I enjoy having my art experienced, and the conversation art activates about what it is to be human. The relationship of creativity to the mind is curious to me also, as the mind can take over and to create is to find a larger field beyond the confines of regular thought and inner dialogue. I consider my artwork to be along the lines of abstract expressionism because my process is highly intuitive.
