Caren Henkes

Visual Art – New York - NYC

Born into a family with a long line of artists, creativity and artistic expression have been a cornerstone in Caren's life. This artistic lineage dates back to David Claypoole Johnston, the first natively trained American to master all the various graphic arts processes of lithography, etching, and engraving. Caren graduated in 2008 with a BFA from Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art, and Planning and then moved to NYC where she worked as an Art Director and freelancer. In 2014, she took her love for design + aesthetics and started an artisanal footwear company but found the entrepreneurial world to be less fulfilling on a personal level. She's since circled back to her roots as an artist and is driven to see it through. When painting, Caren finds inspiration in the artistic process, color relationships, fluidity, brushwork experimentation, visual balance, architecture/ interiors, and the masters of abstract expressionism. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband and three mini-dachshunds.
