Visual Art – Indianapolis

My name is Brittany Shatley and I am an abstract watercolor artist hailing from Indianapolis, IN. With a BA in Fashion and Editorial Photography from Indiana University, I have always been a visual person with a deep interest in creative processes. I grew up dreaming of being a visual storyteller and up until 2014, I used photography as my main form of expression. It wasn't until a move to Nashville, TN that I took up the art of painting. I began with a cheap pan watercolor set from the local craft store and started teaching myself how to use them. Watercolor painting very quickly became something that I latched on to and I wanted to learn more. I began reaching out to friends who were painters, watching Youtube videos, etc. to learn as much as I could. Painting with watercolors is now my main medium with a focus in abstract art. I've found that working in the abstract allows me to tell stories in a different way- a way that lets me tell my version, but also lets the viewer decide what version of a story that they are seeing. These days you can find me in my studio, blasting music and letting the paint flow.
