I don't remember the first time I picked up a camera. But one of my earliest memories is of my dad's Pentax: a heavy, beautiful, silver and black piece of machinery that always had a bit of an enigmatic draw. Still, I went off to college in pursuit of a "real job" because living ones passion is for the gifted and financially free--or so I thought. While in college (Sic 'Em Baylor Bears!), as I studied the brain and behavior (which I still really do love), I picked up a camera, some film, and walked into my first photojournalism course. And I fell in love. I fell in love in the dark room as I watched my film come to life. I fell in love with the ability to capture, not just a beautiful image, but a moment and feeling in time. To conjure a memory. To evoke a visceral emotional reaction. I bought my first DSLR in 2010 and, over time, learned that my creative passion is in capturing the most natural, most honest parts of life. I like photos with eyes closed, noses squished, hands clasped, fingers intertwined, whips of hair...wild laughter, sincere tears. I like angles, shadows, silhouettes, rich colors, and natural light that inspires emotion. My goal is to create fine art of the everyday...To capture the creators and artists who bring beauty into the world but rarely see their own... to hold up a mirror toward humanity and reflect back its inherent light.
