Arielle Mae Dykstra

Performing Art – Chicago

Arielle Dykstra is a mover, a maker, and a teacher. She holds a BFA from Dance at Illinois at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Arielle teaches dance, yoga, and basic video/editing skills. In addition, she choreographs performance pieces and creates dance films. Her creative work stems from improvisation and curiosities inherent within the intelligence of the human body.  She often creates through the exploration of materials as they relate to the body and space. Her art has been shown at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana, Il; Krannert Art Museum in Champaign, IL; and The Odyssey in Chicago, IL. Her most recent dance film "flowers, people, and things" was shown at the Spurlock Museum in Urbana, IL as a part of the Flatlands Dance Film Festival. She has performed with artists Ping Chong, Jennifer Monson, Linda Lehovec, UIUC MFA Hadley Smith, and UIUC MFA Rhea Speights. She has performed in Champaign-Urbana, IL; Chicago, IL; and Brooklyn, NY. As well as making her own art, Arielle works in Dance Documentation - video recording, editing, and archiving the work of fellow artists. She worked as the assistant to the Graduate Video Media Coordinator at Dance at Illinois in addition to free-lance performance documentation.
