Performing Art – Detroit

Monica Brady-Barnard is a dancer and emerging artist from Detroit Michigan. In 2017 she earned her B.S. in Dance from Wayne State University. During her time there she focused on dance making and earned the Copperfoot Award for excellence in choreography. Her work has been shown in showcases such as, Artlab J, Kristi Faulkner Dance (REGENERATE and Woman's Work), Brighton Dance Festival, Wayne State University, American College Dance Association, Sidewalk Festival Detroit, Oakland Dance Festival, Henry Ford College, and RAW Detroit/Boston. Since graduating she has focused on creating and producing her own work in creative spaces not usually used for dance. Her work is inspired by her experiences unique to being a woman, she enjoys exploring what it means to be feminine and working with other woman in order to expand her definition of 'being female'. In her free time Monica enjoys spending time with her three daughters Lavender, Ursula, and Cosima Lou. She can often be found taking long walks in the middle of the night or curled up with her favorite Harry Potter book. Among Women is a group of women focused on communal choreographic exploration and creation. We as a group recognize that the definition of female is different for everyone who identifies as one. We as a group wish to share our experiences as well as learn from others in order to find common ground. We are committed to creating open conversation, giving voice, and nurturing feminine energy, through our work.
