Music – Baltimore

ALYX is a performer and self taught multitalented artist born and raised in Baltimore, MD. The 22 year old established her love for music at the age of four. "I remember the summer my brother and I spent with my mom at my Aunt's house. Growing up in a family of musicians and music lovers combined, gave me the exposure of listening to a variety of genres and sounds from various artists and bands. My mom is the one who's responsible for endowing that into my life. Home is where it started and from there, the rest is history." ALYX taught her self how to sing by listening and learning from her idols she looked up to. Later, she got involved in extracurricular activities in her school to perform in talent shows, learn and played instruments in band class and acting in plays. English was her most loved subject in school. She enjoyed writing so much, she tap that skill into songwriting at the age of 9. "Writing just became second nature to me. As a kid, I felt misunderstood. Anything I was feeling or needed to vent about, I wrote it on paper or I would type it on my computer. Once I started feeling comfortable and writing every day, those journal/diary entries became the tracks of my life". At the age of 15, ALYX started producing her own material. "I would sit and write lyrics and freestyles to other artist's instrumentals which was a popular thing, especially when R&B artists were dropping mixtapes. But I really wanted to show I can do MORE. I wanted people to see that singing isn't the only thing I can bring to the table. So I did my research and I came across a recording software called, "Mixcraft." Around this time, I knew nothing about MIDI Keyboards, audio interface, zip, ZERO! I learned as I go. I would take a bunch of loops, arrange them together and it would sound like a full track. I learned how to also create catchy melodies, harmonizing vocals, editing, mixing to balance the sounds, adding effects, etc. I didn't own a professional mic. I used the mic on my headphones, plug that baby in my mom's laptop and record. That was my set up. But because I was using the trial version, I wasn't able to upload majority of my work. Good thing I saved my lyrics though. (laughs) Then, I moved to using FL Studio, GarageBand (on iPhone and Mac), Logic and Reason which is the main, current software I'm using." In January 2010, ALYX released her very first song, "Get My Facebook On". "'Till this day, I feel this is the most creative song I've ever written. I laugh, I smile, I bop my head and sing my heart out along with it. Back then, you couldn't tell me I wasn't a good writer! I remember just being so proud and full of excitement. It was the best feeling ever. Looking back 7 years ago to now, I'm amazed by myself. Just seeing the growth between that time feels nostalgic. Even though I started music years ago, now is only the beginning. The growth never stops. I'm still evolving and learning as much as I can. It's a far, far road ahead of me and I never been any ready to walk it." In 2017, ALYX released her official single, "Wait A Minute". "Writing about my experiences has been therapy. I'm reliving those moments and having conversations with my self. Being able to share that with the rest of the world is letting people have a glimpse of knowing other parts of my life. When people move, or feel and sing to your songs, it's priceless. I don't ever want anyone to feel or look at me like I've had it perfect because I say, strongly, I HAVEN'T. At the end of the day, I AM NO DIFFERENT! I've had tremendous experiences going through just about everything you could possibly think of (and still do). Life is a big rollercoaster of sunshine and rain. One moment, you're so high off life and everything seems exactly perfect, where it's suppose to be. But then, the rollercoaster takes that big drop and life hits rock bottom in seconds. As I got older, I began to understand and appreciate the big and little things in life. I try to pay attention to the small details. I'm literally grateful, so grateful for everything I've gone through, even in the worst of situations and times where I had nothing. It's 'part of the learning process. Sharing my story through music, I hope to impact others the way my idols did for me. My message to you: No matter where you come from or who you are, no matter your background, your religion or ethnicity, poor or rich, small or big, boy or girl, woman or man, young or old, do not live in fear! Don't be afraid to use your voice. Whatever it is you want to do, CHASE IT. ACHIEVE IT. BREATHE IT. STUDY IT. BE IT. The MOTTO: 2 Chainz said it best, "Believe in yourself! Who 'else gone believe in you?." Today, ALYX continues to work hard in pursuing towards a hopeful success becoming a well-known artist. ALYX recently created a YouTube channel singing mash up's and covers of other artists, adding her own spin of unique style with vocals so soothing and . She's also using social media as her platform to promote her music, events and to build a fanbase. She's also performing at local open mics.
